Dr. Mortimer Werther

Remote Sensing Scientist

The study of Earth's water resources using satellites and various ground-based remote sensing technologies is my main area of interest. My research focuses on measuring and understanding the biological, chemical and physical factors that drive water ecological status, quality and quantity. The development and validation of remote sensing algorithms are given particular consideration in my work.I currently work at the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology (EAWAG) as a PostDoc close to Zürich, Switzerland. Our team works on greater understanding and better remote sensing modelling of phytoplankton primary production in Swiss lakes. Previously I worked for Brockmann Consult as a research assistant and iSoftStone as a search engine auditor (both in Hamburg, Germany).Feel free to contact me via the Email icon. You can also find my Google Scholar, ResearchGate, Twitter, LinkedIn or GitHub profiles here.I obtained my Ph.D in Remote Sensing from the University of Stirling in collaboration with EAWAG and Plymouth Marine Laboratory (Scotland, United Kingdom, 2018 - 2022).
Ph.D thesis title:
Remote sensing of phytoplankton biomass in oligotrophic and mesotrophic lakes: addressing estimation uncertainty through machine learning.
